DETROIT (WWJ) – As Detroit gears up for its second-ever September North American International Auto Show, organizers of the event announced Grammy-winning reggae icon Shaggy will be performing at the Charity Preview.
Shaggy, best known for his 2001 Billboard-topping hit “It Wasn’t Me,” will put on a special performance on the Atrium Stage at Huntington Place at 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 15.
Detroit Auto Show Chairman Thad Szott says Shaggy has “dominated the global reggae charts for decades” with hits like “Angel” and “Boombastic.”
“It will be an incredibly electric night in Detroit, both with the vehicles on display and the energy going on inside Huntington Place that evening,” Szott said.
The Black-Tie Charity Preview has raised more than $100 million for children’s charities across Southeast Michigan. This year’s event will benefit six organizations:
• Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan
• The Children’s Center
• The Children’s Foundation
• Detroit Auto Dealers Association Charitable Foundation Fund, a fund of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan
• Detroit PAL
• University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital
The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a ribbon cutting in the Huntington Place Atrium, with the Auto Show floor opening from 6-9 p.m.
Technology Days and AutoMobili-D will be held on Sept. 13-14, while the NAIAS is open to the public Sept. 16-24.
Tickets to the Charity Preview are available on the NAIAS website.
