(WWJ) A Shelby Township man accused of trying to abduct two young girls in two local communities faces up to life in prison if he's convicted on a kidnapping charge.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office said the 23-year old was arrested Tuesday after he grabbed a 7-year old girl off her bike at the Clinton River Park North entrance in Sterling Heights. But as the man tried to drive off, a Good Samaritan boxed him in and the girl was able to get away.

The suspect, whose name is not being released at this time, was then held at the scene, on Van Dyke Ave., north of 19 Mile Rd., until police arrived and took him into custody.

Investigators said, just an hour earlier, the suspect tried to grab a 15-year old girl who was walking along Clinton River Road in Clinton Township. Another Good Samaritan person who saw what was happening intervened and the teenager was able to get away, prosecutors said.

The suspect is charged with Attempted Unlawful Imprisonment, a five year felony, and Assault and Battery, a 93-day-misdemeanor in the Clinton Township incident.

He was charged with Kidnapping - Child Enticement, a life felony, Reckless Driving, a 93-day misdemeanor, and Assault and Battery, a 93-day misdemeanor in the Sterling Heights incident.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Clinton Township District Court and Sterling Heights District Court Thursday afternoon. His name and photo are expected to be released at that time.

“The swift actions of these brave young girls and bystanders, combined with the relentless dedication of our law enforcement, have prevented what could have been a tragic situation," said Prosecutor Pete Lucido, in a statement. "We will pursue justice to ensure the safety of our community."
