OAKLAND TWP (WWJ) -- The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is asking for help identifying the driver of a white BMW 300 that struck and killed a Shelby Township man on Sunday morning.
Just before 6 a.m., 22-year-old Benjamin Kable was walking along southbound Rochester Rd. near Whims Lane in Oakland Township when he was hit by a vehicle heading in the same direction.
The person behind the wheel then drove away.
Paramedics from the Oakland Twp. Fire Department pronounced Kable dead at the scene.
According to investigators, a witness to the hit-and-run described the driver as a woman of Asian descent. At this time, the suspect was believed to have been driving a white BMW 300 manufactured between 2012 and 2019.
“A terrible crash like this is horrific enough, but to flee the scene and leave a person in the road like trash is unforgivable,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “We need the public’s help finding this person.”
It is not currently known if either Kable or the driver were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The case is being handled by the OCSO Crash Reconstruction Unit.
Anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. Crime Stoppers pays a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Tipsters remain anonymous.
