PONTIAC (WWJ) -- The Oakland County Sheriff is outraged by the low bond for a Pontiac man accused of shooting at a car with a woman and her small child inside.
Sheriff's officials said 25-year-old Robertlee Rayshawn Rogers was given a $1,000 bond after he allegedly shot at his girlfriend's vehicle during argument.
Authorities said Rogers fired the single shot at the car as the 27-year-old woman was trying to drive away, with her 2-year-old son in the backseat.
The incident happened at around 1 a.m. Wednesday at a Pontiac apartment complex near Auburn Rd. and Martin Luther King Blvd.
Rogers ran into a vacant apartment, but was tracked down by deputies and arrested.
The sheriff's office said the incident was caught on security camera, corroborating the victim’s account of the shooting, and deputies recovered a 9mm Ruger handgun that Rogers stashed under a bush.
Fortunately, no one was injured.
Rogers was arraigned in the 50th District Court on Thursday on five felony counts, including concerned carry (CCW), possession of a firearm by prohibited person, assault with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of felony firearm.
The magistrate set a person bond of $1,000, which Sheriff Mike Bouchard feels wasn't high enough, considering the seriousness of the charges.
“This was a dangerous act and violent act that could have ended in tragedy. Thanks to the swift actions of our deputies, the suspect was taken into custody, the weapon recovered, and — most importantly—the victim and her child were unharmed. However, after being charged with five serious
criminal counts, having a $1,000 personal bond is absurd and unacceptable violating the victim again.”
Rogers with be back in court for Probable Cause Conference set for Sept. 9.
