(WWJ) – A 33-year-old Detroit man is dead after being hit by a car on a Metro Detroit freeway early Sunday morning.
Michigan State Police officials say the incident happened around 3:30 a.m. along I-96 near Inkster Road in Redford Township.
MSP officials got a call from the Redford Township Police Department about a shirtless man running across the freeway.
Initial info from investigators investigates the man was fleeing from a larceny from a vehicle and ran onto the freeway to try to escape.
Minutes after the initial call, authorities received more calls stating a shirtless male had been struck and killed on the freeway.
The 41-year-old driver of the vehicle that hit him stayed at the scene of the crash, according to MSP.
Investigators are still trying to identify the man who was hit. Officials say the case is pending medical examiner's reports and further investigation.
