DETROIT (WWJ) — Two Metro Detroit teenagers are recovering after they were shot and involved in a crash on the Lodge Freeway early Sunday morning on Detroit's northwest side.
It all unfolded around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, June 9 along northbound M-10 near 7 Mile Road, according to Michigan State Police.
Police got a call about a single-car crash on the Lodge near McNichols and the caller told dispatch they had been shot at and were hiding.
A secondary crash happened when another car hit the victim's abandoned car, according to MSP. The driver of the secondary crash sustained minor injuries.
MSP officials say the caller's car did have bullet holes in it, but no further details surrounding the shooting are known at this time. MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened.
The driver, an 18-year-old from West Bloomfield, and the passenger, a 19-year-old from Southfield, were both found with gunshot wounds to their arms.
Both of them were taken to the hospital and listed in temporary serious condition.
The shooting and crash left the freeway closed for several hours.
Anyone who knows something about the incident is asked to call 855-MICH-TIP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 SPEAK-UP.
