DETROIT (WWJ) - An altercation between two drivers led to several shots fired in Detroit Monday night in what police are calling a suspected road rage incident.
Troopers said the driver of a Chevy Malibu called 911 to report their vehicle had been shot at while they were on northbound M-39, just north of I-96 around 10:15 p.m.
During their investigation, police learned the Chevy Malibu was being tailgated by a Chevy SUV while driving on I-96. As both vehicles were on the ramp to get on to north M-39, the SUV flashed its lights at the Malibu.
"Upon entering northbound M-39, the Chevy crossed to the left lane and someone in the vehicle fired 2-3 shots at the Malibu," state police said.
The shots did not strike the victim's car, police added.
The driver of the Malibu believes the occupants in the SUV were two Black males.
Police shut down the northbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway at I-96, as well as the entrance ramps in both directions of I-96 as they searched for shell casings.
Police said they are still investigating the incident and no other details were released.
