SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- Snow falling overnight into Thursday morning is expected to make for a slow and slick morning commute in Metro Detroit.
AccuWeather Meteorologist Joe Lundberg says snow showers moving though the area late Wednesday night into the AM hours will accumulate just an inch or two. "And that's gonna make for a mess, I think, for (Thursday) morning's commute across the area," Lundberg said.
"Light snow," he said, "but, again, enough to cause slippery travel conditions."
It'll be a cold Thursday morning, with temperatures in the upper teens to near 20°, creeping up to a high of around 32°, with some leftover flurries.
AccuWeather says the snow is not expected to arrive until after midnight, putting down 1-2 inches of accumulation by Thursday afternoon.
Lundberg said Friday will be a quiet day, with clouds and a high in the mid-30s — before more snow arrives.
"Another front approaches Friday night and with it, another round of snow across the area," he said. "That'll last into early Saturday before ending probably a couple of inches with that, at the very least."
Looking ahead into the weekend, it'll be a cold one. The high on Saturday will reach around 35° in Detroit, dropping down to around 13° at night. AccuWeather says Sunday is looking even frostier, with a high of 21° and a low around 4°.
However, Lundberg warned WWJ's Jackie Paige: "If you think it's cold now, Jackie, wait till next week because it's going to be even colder. The coldest air mass so far this season will invade the area early next week."
Dress warm if you have to go anywhere.
AccuWeather is calling for a sunny but frigid Monday, with a high of around 12° and a low of 1° degree above zero in Detroit. Tuesday, it'll reach only to around 9° during the day, with a low down to 2°, AccuWeather says.
In the suburbs, it may be a couple of degrees colder. Sterling Heights, for example, is looking at highs of 9° and 8° Monday and Tuesday, and lows of -2° and 1 degree respectively. In Rochester Hills, AccuWeather is calling for highs of around 8° degrees, with lows -4° and 0° on Monday and Tuesday.
