SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Cases of beer will still hit shelves at a local Meijer store -- and not one bottle short -- after Southfield fire crews quickly contained a fire on a delivery truck Friday morning.
WWJ's Charlie Langton said fire fighters made quick work of the scene after the truck burst into flames behind the Meijer store at 12 Mile and Telegraph.
"The Southfield Fire Department, they're here," Langton said. "They're actually putting out the fire. No injuries, that's the good thing."
Langton reported the truck was hauling beer when it erupted in flames. Officials were quick to get to the scene and removed much of the beer from the truck, which consisted of Labatt and other products.
But it appears that all the contents have been undamaged and accounted for.
"Oh, absolutely!" Smith told Langton. "This beer truck trying to make a delivery. We got a report of flames seen and we rushed over right away. Luckily, we were able to save the contents and the valuable contents of this truck here."
Firefighters are still conducting an investigation into what caused the fire, but Langton confirmed with officials that it did start in the engine compartment, as far as they can tell.
Any damage from the flames also seemed to be contained to the cab area. Langton said no one was hurt in the incident and all the beer was accounted for.
"Not one bottle was damaged," Smith said.
