Tip leads to arrest of Southfield man accused in Oak Park hit-and-run crash that killed disabled veteran

OAK PARK (WWJ) -- A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection to a fatal hit-and-run involving a disabled veteran.

According to Oak Park Public Safety, 28-year-old Devin Asa-Armon Light of Southfield was arraigned in 45th District Court on Thursday on one count of Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death.

The 71-year-old victim — who uses a wheelchair — was found in the roadway at West 9 Mile Rd. and Harding St., near Greenfield Rd., in the early morning of Nov. 22, 2025.

Officers performed lifesaving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver that hit him was nowhere to be found.

Police determined that he man was in the roadway when he was hit by an eastbound dark-colored sedan, which fled the scene.

Further investigation confirmed that the involved vehicle was a dark gray 2023–2026 Hyundai Elantra. Investigators later recovered a 2024 dark gray Hyundai Elantra that had been abandoned in the Detroit.

Police said a "critical tip" ultimately led to Light's arrest.
