
FRENCHTOWN TWP. (WWJ) -- The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says speed was a factor in a crash that killed a motorcyclist at a Telegraph Road intersection on Memorial Day.
According to Sheriff Troy Goodnough, the deadly crash happened just before 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 29, at Telegraph and Newport Road in Frenchtown Township.
A preliminary investigation found that a 27-year-old Detroit man driving a black 2020 Peterbilt tractor-trailer southbound on Telegraph was turning onto Newport when his trailer was hit by a red and black 1987 Honda Hurricane motorcycle headed northbound on Telegraph.
The motorcycle driver, identified as 28-year-old Kwan A. Brown of Monroe, was knocked off the bike, landing in the intersection.
Brown, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, later died of this injuries.
Officials noted that the truck driver was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. He spoke with sheriff's investigators on the scene and was released.
In a news release, the sheriff's office noted that "speed is a factor in the crash," but did not release any further details about that statement.
An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division was ongoing on Tuesday. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7756, or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-Speak Up (800-773-2587).
Members of the Frenchtown Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.
