ALMONT (WWJ) -- The Lapeer County Prosecutor's Office has filed murder and other charges against a St. Clair County man accused of killing a middle school football coach.

Prosecutors say 32-year-old William Channer of Columbus, Michigan, fatally shot Logan Welch, who coached at West Grand Blanc Middle School.

The murder happened at Trims Unlimited in Almont, where Welch was working Wednesday morning.

Channer fled the scene and was shot by a Lapeer County Sheriff's Deputy, about ten miles away, before being taken into custody, official said.

On Friday, Canner remained hospitalized in critical condition after undergoing multiple surgeries.

The prosecutor's office told WWJ Newsradio 950 his arraignment will be postponed for a bit while he's being treated.

Canner is charged with Felony Murder, Felony Firearm, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Fleeing and Eluding.

The prosecutor's office said his arraignment will be postponed until he recovers.

It's still unclear what led to the shooting. The investigation still ongoing into a motive or relationship between the two men, officials said.

According to a GoFundMe, Logan was married to Hannah Welch. "He was her high school sweetheart, best friend, partner, and her constant source of love and laughter," according to the posting. A $200,000 goal was set to help the widow with funeral expenses and living costs, during time away from work.
