HOLLY (WWJ) An 11-year-old boy drowned at a state park in Holly, according to Michigan State Police.

State Police said their Regional Communication Center received calls of a child missing on the water at Holly Recreation Area, on Grange Hall near Dixie Highway, on Saturday (5/25) around 6:30 p.m.

According to the troopers’ investigation, the 11-year-old had an inner tube and was about 10 feet away from the shore. He was playing with another child.

The child he was playing with was standing on the shore, saw the boy go under the water, come back up and then go beneath the water’s surface again. The child on the shore called for help and the people on the beach helped search the water, State Police said.

Oakland County Marine Services arrived and joined the search. At around 7:25 p.m., the child was found. First responders started CPR and rushed him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers are interviewing witnesses. State Police said no lifeguards were present at the time. The investigation is ongoing.
