(WWJ) Michigan State Police are reminding drivers to watch out for emergency vehicles, after an officer was rear-ended on the job.

A Motor Carrier officer was on the scene of a one car crash on eastbound I-96 at MLK Jr. Boulevard at 11:15 a.m. Monday to help with traffic control.

That's when police said a Ford Focus, being driven by a 22-year-old man from Dearborn, hit the back of the Motor Carrier officer's vehicle.

The officer reported back pain and was taken for a medical assessment.

The driver of the Focus was uninjured.

As a reminder, Michigan's “move over” law requires drivers to slow down to at least 10 mph below the posted speed limit and move over a lane when approaching police, ambulances and other emergency vehicles.

“The at fault driver was driving too fast for conditions,” said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw. “During the investigation it was also determined that he did not have insurance. We remind all drivers to watch for emergency vehicles and move over a lane if safe to do so.”
