BAY COUNTY (WWJ) -- It was a close call for a Michigan State Police trooper who became disoriented and fell to the ground while conducting a traffic stop.

His reaction was in response into coming into contact with suspected fentanyl.

On Wednesday afternoon, the trooper stopped a driver on M-13 near Beaver Road in Bay County, who was driving recklessly and suspected of being under the influence.

The officer was conducting a search on the vehicle when he apparently touched the drug.

Police say he then adjusted his face mask, became lethargic and fell to the ground. His partner recognized the signs of an overdose and administered Narcan.

The trooper was taken to a local hospital where he is in stable condition and is expected to be released soon.

The 32-year-old suspect remains under investigation.
