TROY (WWJ) -- A Sterling Heights man is facing charges in Oakland County, after he fled the scene of an accident while police believe he was drunk.

According to Troy Police, the suspect was driving one of two vehicles that was involved in a crash on Monday, Nov. 11, at W Maple Rd. and Livernois in Troy.

When police arrived on the scene, just before 9 p.m., only one of the drivers involved in the crash was present, reporting that the other driver had fled.

Police said a witness was able to provide a description and license plate for the vehicle that left, and officers found that car -- a 2014 Buick Lacrosse -- on Hartshorn Dr. near Maple Rd.

While speaking with the driver, a 61-year-old Sterling Heights man, officers noted "his eyes were bloodshot and watery, his movements were lethargic, and there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person," according to the police report.

After police said the man performed poorly on a series of field sobriety tests, he refused to take a preliminary breath test, and was arrested.

At the Troy Police lock-up, police said the driver was read his Chemical Test rights and again refused to take a breath test. A search warrant to complete the blood draw was granted, and the man's blood was drawn by medical personnel.

Police said the case has been turned over to the Troy PD Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood results are returned.

The driver's name was not released pending an arraignment on expected charges.
