Sterling Heights man who crashed Jeep into electric pole tells police he hadn't been drinking, but smoked 'two blunts'
TROY (WWJ) -- A Macomb County man who was arrested at the scene of a crash in Oakland County last week could face charges, after he told the cops he'd smoked some pot.
Troy Police responded shortly before midnight on Wednesday, Jan. 10, to the area of Maple and Chicago Rd. in Troy, where a Jeep Wagoneer had smashed head-on with an electrical pole.
Police said officers spoke with the driver, a 33-year-old man from Sterling Heights, who said he was on his way home from a bar.
The driver told the cops he didn't drink any alcohol, but admitted he'd "smoked two blunts" in the hours before the crash.
According to the police report, the officers noted that the man "had bloodshot eyes as well as delayed speech and movements."
The driver was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation and was informed he was under arrest on a charge of Operating Under the influence of Drugs. He was read his rights, and submitted to a blood draw, police said.
After the man's blood was drawn by medical staff, the driver was released to the hospital's care pending test results.
The investigation is ongoing.
