FRASER (WWJ) - A freight train caused major backups in Macomb County on Wednesday morning after it stopped on the tracks and blocked traffic for over an hour.
At 8 a.m., WWJ's Charlie Langton said drivers grew frustrated after the train stopped over Groesbeck Highway and Utica Roads in Fraser -- and didn't budge.
"It hasn't been moved at all in about an hour," Langton added, stating no one appeared to know why the train came to a stop over the road.
Edwin Coleman of Detroit told Langton he was on his way to work when he got stuck in the backup.
"Train ain't went back or forward," Coleman said. "...real unusual, man. Late for work. I'm talking about wasting tons of gas, man. Like, don't nobody reimburse us for this stuff, man."
As Langton reported from the scene just after 8:05 a.m., the train slowly began moving forward.
"I think it's the power of WWJ and maybe that's it," Langton said. "I've got a little video of it, but there's some very irate people in line."
Another driver, Derek Reyes from St. Clair Shores, expressed apprehension over whether his job would believe he was late over a stopped train.
"I'm finally going to get chewed out when I get to work, that's for sure," he said.
"Blame it on the train," Langton replied.
"Yeah, he's really going to believe that, right?" Reyes added.
Langton said the train is long and it still might take awhile for it to move all the way through -- granted it doesn't stop again -- but the road will soon be cleared.
