DETROIT (WWJ) – As warmer weather finds its way to Metro Detroit, a popular event is back and better than ever in downtown Detroit.
Downtown Street Eats returned to Cadillac Square and the Woodward Esplanade Monday, with food trucks serving up lunchtime offerings for downtown workers.
With more than 80 rotating trucks scheduled each weekday through October, the food truck rally offers a wide variety of cuisine options, from Asian to Greek to Mexican and more.
Created and run by the Downtown Detroit Partnership and curated by the Detroit-based firm Ask Jennyfer, the event attracts more than 2,500 customers a day and continues to grow.
Organizers say the event -- now in its 11th season -- helps grow small businesses, as well as expand lunch options for downtown workers.
“We’re in the heart of downtown Detroit. The thing is, just wanting people to patronize small business owners and food trucks because they are the backbones of the community. When you’re supporting these businesses, you’re helping them feed their families,” said Jennfyer Crawford-Williams of Ask Jennyfer.
Food trucks will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday. A schedule of upcoming food trucks can be found on the DDP website.
