MONROE (WWJ) -- One or more young suspects could face charges in connection with alleged threats sent to a charter school student in Monroe, according to authorities.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says, the evening of Monday, Sept. 22, a student who attends Triumph Academy received threatening text messages, including photos of firearms, from an unknown number.
The texts, which "indicated potential violence" against the K-8 school, were reported by the student to school staff on Tuesday morning, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies and detectives from the sheriff's office immediately launched an investigation, and found the threat not to be credible.
Officials said the person or people responsible for the messages have been identified, and the case will be forwarded to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office for potential criminal charges.
"The safety of the students and staff remains our highest priority. We commend the individual who reported this threat for their vigilance. We take all threats seriously and will continue to work closely with our school district partners to maintain a safe learning environment," the sheriff's office said, in a statement.
Officials said no further information would be released about the suspect or suspects due to their age — indicating that they're dealing with a juvenile.
Details were not released about what, exactly, the threatening messages said.
