DETROIT (WWJ) -- A person of interest in a shooting that left two people dead and an infant home alone for hours has surrendered.

Detroit Police say 32-year-old Orlando Whitfield turned himself in to authorities in Washtenaw County on Tuesday evening after being named in the case.

On Monday, a 9-month-old baby was found in a Detroit home where a double-murder had taken place.

Family members discovered the bodies of the parents -- 31-year-old Deandre Fizer III and 27-year-old Tonia Carter -- around 4:15 p.m. on Monday on Northlawn Street, near 6 Mile Road and Wyoming on the city’s northwest side.

According to Fox2Detroit, the man had been bound, gagged and murdered in the basement, and his fiancée had been fatally shot upstairs.

The baby was unharmed, but sources say that the child had been left unattended for quite some time.

"Some family members came to check, they hadn’t heard anything from anybody in a minute," a neighbor told Fox2Detroit. "And, they managed to get the front window open, and discovered the scene, and got the baby out and asked me to call 911."

Whitfield is currently awaiting trial for the murder of Marissa Edmunds in Ypsilanti, which happened in 2018. He had reportedly fled house arrest on Tuesday after cutting his tether.

Police say detectives are planning to interview Whitfield soon.
