Authorities say suspect in random stabbings in Macomb Co. last year bound over to face charges

(WWJ) - The man authorities say is responsible for random stabbings in Macomb County in May has been bound over to face the charges.

31-year-old Shane Burns was bound over to Macomb County Circuit Court in connection to random stabbings that took place in Roseville and St. Clair Shores last year.

On the morning of May 17, it is alleged that Burns fatally stabbed a woman in the Belle Tire parking lot on Gratiot in Roseville. Burns then drove to 12 Mile Road and Harper Avenue in St. Clair Shores. A man waiting at a bus stop was also stabbed multiple times but survived, authorities said. Burns then left the scene.

Warren Police Department's Special Ops Unit arrested Burns in the area of Van Dyke Avenue and Stephens Road in the afternoon of May 17.

A search of Burns' vehicle uncovered a shotgun, 9 mm firearm and a "large amount" of ammunition, according to police.

Burns allegedly bit at his wrists and was able to grab a knife from an officer and slit his wrist once he was brought to the Roseville Police Department.

Burns is facing first degree premeditated murder, which is a felony that has a sentence of life without parole, assault with intent to murder, a life felony, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon, disarming a police officer, and two counts of felony firearm, all of which carry sentences from two to five years, officials said.

"Our commitment to the safety of our community is resolute, and we will vigorously pursue justice and ensure accountability for these senseless acts," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said.

Burns was bound over by Roseville District Court Judge Kathleen Tocco. Burns is being held on bond set at $10 million.

An arraignment has been scheduled for Jan. 22 in the Macomb County Circuit Court in front of Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Faunce.
