SAULT STE. MARIE (WWJ/AP) A suspect accused of lighting four patrol cars on fire in Sault Ste. Marie and shooting at them has been injured in an officer-involved shooting with Michigan State Police and taken into custody, according to State Police.

State Police said a gunfight broke out between the Florida man, 39, around 2 p.m. Thursday at a property on Riverside Drive in the Sault Ste. Marie area. The suspect fired shots and the officers returned fire.


The man was caught on security camera around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday dousing the Michigan State Police patrol cars with gasoline and setting them on fire, then shooting at them, in an area of the post that is accessible to the public; State Police said.

The suspect was wearing camouflage and was considered "armed and dangerous." He drove away from the scene in a SUV, according to State Police.

Following the officer-involved shooting, the suspect was rushed to the hospital. His name and his condition have not been released. No officers were injured.
