Police said further information will be released by the investigating agency and thanked the public for staying clear of the area of Revere and Jefferson in St. Clair Shores.

The suspect lead police on an active pursuit earlier in the evening, ending around 10:30 p.m.

Authorities had told the local community to expect a large police presence with assistance from the department's helicopter, Trooper 2. It is unclear if police were involved in a car chase or if officers had pursued the suspect on foot.

Large crowds had gathered initially on scene which prompted the tweet from the Michigan State Police, urging others to stay away.

Further details were not made available.
