LIVONIA (WWJ) -- A man is in custody after robbing a business in Livonia earlier this month.
Officers responded on July 5 to an alarm at a Weingartz on Plymouth Road. When they arrived, the found that the front window of the business had been shattered and several items had been stolen.
Looking at security camera footage, police discovered that earlier that morning, a masked suspect pulled up to the location in a Cadillac Eldorado with a towel covering the license plate.
The suspect can be seen throwing a rock through the window, climbing inside, and then stealing four power generators. Before leaving the scene, the suspect is a bit too hasty, and removes the towel so that the license plate is caught in plain view of the cameras.
Using the license plate information, Livonia police were able to locate the man's vehicle in Monroe.
After an investigation, it was discovered that the suspect — 36-year-old Juan Alvarez-Rivera of Toledo — was wanted in Oregon, Ohio in connection with another business burglary.
Officers also recovered a handgun from the Cadillac that Alvarez-Rivera allegedly stole while visiting a home in Monroe earlier that day.
Alvarez-Rivera was arraigned in Livonia’s 16th District Court on charges of breaking and entering, and he is scheduled for a follow-up hearing on July 22.
