ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – A man is behind bars after Michigan State Police caught him going over 100 mph on I-696 Saturday night, allegedly while drunk.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. on I-696 near Woodward Avenue when a trooper stopped the driver for going 106 mph in a 70 mph zone.

When the trooper began talking with the driver they noticed he was impaired and had an open container of alcohol in the car. The driver was arrested and taken to the MSP post, where he refused a blood draw to determine his blood alcohol content.

Authorities eventually got a search warrant to draw his blood, but the suspect "continued to actively resist medical personnel" as they tried to take his blood.

He also resisted troopers as they tried to help the medical personnel to execute the search warrant.

Though the blood draw was finally completed after numerous attempts, he then refused to be fingerprinted. He was taken to the Oakland County Jail.

No injuries were reported to the troopers, medical personnel or the driver. The man's name has not been released, as the case pends prosecutor review.

"Here is another driver who decided to put drivers at risk with their own risky driving behavior. Not only driving impaired, but driving at a speed that if they were involved in a crash it could have resulted in a fatality," MSP First Lt. said.
