Suspected drunk woman on tether leads police on high-speed car chase through three metro Detroit cities

WARREN (WWJ) - A woman on a tether led Warren Police on a half-hour car chase through Warren, Detroit and Grosse Pointe Park — ending with a smashed Jeep and a long list of charges.

Authorities say the incident began around 5 p.m. Thursday when the 42-year-old woman stole a Jeep in Hazel Park and drove to Warren where she crashed into a home.

When Warren police arrived at the scene of the crash, the woman sped away and led police south on I-75 and then onto Davison Freeway where she allegedly hit a Warren police car, causing minor damage, said authorities.

After hitting the cop car, she continued the chase onto Jefferson Ave. in Detroit and then to Kercheval Ave. in Grosse Pointe Park where the police needed to throw out stop sticks to flatten her tires.

Upon seeing the woman, the police said they saw she was wearing a tether for drunk driving and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Warren Police Commissioner, William Dwyer, said that this woman is the type of person who is “very dangerous” to the public and to themselves.

“These are the kind of people that you got to make sure their license is suspended for forever, quite frankly,” Dwyer said.

Police told WWJ’s Charlie Langton that she is expected to be facing charges including fleeing and eluding, auto theft, felonious assault, malicious destruction of property, and driving with a suspended license. Authorities are waiting on blood results to charge her with drunk driving.

No one ended up injured.
