DETROIT (WWJ) -- In the aftermath of a reported freeway shooting that left one person dead and another severely injured, Michigan State Police are working to find witnesses and identify the assailant.
MSP reports that several people arrived at Detroit Receiving Hospital around 12:30 a.m. Monday following an alleged freeway shooting.
According to the victims, they were in a car and had just left the Annex nightclub, located at Woodward and Adams Ave in Downtown Detroit.
As they pulled onto northbound I-75 from Brush St., they said "someone" started shooting at them.
While neither the driver or front-seat passenger were harmed, two of the backseat passengers had been struck, and the driver headed to the hospital.
Upon arriving, medical professionals pronounced as 27-year-old woman dead. A 30-year-old man remains in critical condition.
State troopers closed northbound I-75 and the Brush St. entrance ramp to search for shell casings, but the freeway has since reopened.
A late-morning update from MSP stated that officials believe the attack was targeted toward one of the people in the car.
"We know that this was not a random incident," said MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw.
Anyone who may have witnessed anything at the nightclub or along the freeway are asked to contact state police.
