(WWJ) A 19-year-old man is facing a felony charge in a hit-and-run crash that killed an elderly woman Downriver.
Timothy Bieringer of Taylor was taken into custody a short time after the deadly incident, at around 2 p.m. Friday, at westbound Goddard Rd. near Reeck Rd. in Allen Park.
According to police, Bieringer was behind the wheel of a Buick LaSabre that hit another car driven by a 78-year-old Allen Park man, with the 107-year-old mother in the passenger seat.
Bieringer fled the scene on foot before police arrived, and the woman was rushed a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Fortunately, a bystander who witnessed the crash was able to take a photo of the suspect, which helped police to identify track down Bieringer the same day.
Allen Park Police told WWJ he was taken into custody a Southgate Meijer, where he was buying bandages for his injuries.
Bieringer has been charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office with one count of Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Impairment or Death, a 5-year felony. He was scheduled to be arraigned in 24th District Court in Allen Park Monday afternoon.
The name of the victim has not been released, but prosecutors said she is a resident of Allen Park.
