DETROIT (WWJ) -- Charges have been filed against a teenager in the slayings of a young child, his mother and a man Detroit.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Friday announced the case against 16-year-old Malcolm Ray Hardy, charged as an adult with premeditated murder and other crimes in the shooting deaths of 5-year-old Caleb Harris, 28-year-old LaShon Marshall, and Marshall's 32-year-old boyfriend Aaron Benson.
Last weekend, a cousin became concerned when he had not heard from Benson for several days.
Arriving at Benson's home, in the 15310 block of Evergreen on the city's west side, the cousin discovered the lifeless bodies of Benson, Marshall, and her young son.
According to police, all three victims died of multiple gunshot wounds.
And Worthy alleges that Hardy shot them all.
Following a Detroit Police investigation, Hardy and a second juvenile suspect were taken into custody without incident.
Hardy has been charged with three counts of Felony Murder, three counts of First-Degree Premeditated Murder, two counts of Armed Robbery, and eight counts of Felony Firearm.
The warrant request for the second suspect, said to be 17 years old, has been denied because there was insufficient evidence to charge him, according to Worthy's office.
Police nor prosecutors have publicly discussed a possible motive for the killings, which Worthy called "disturbing."
"This case is a jarring reminder of why there should always be options for prosecutors when the facts allege unspeakable premeditated violence by a juvenile. The allegations in this case warrant charging the defendant as an adult," said Worthy, in a statement. "This case is truly disturbing, especially as it relates to young Caleb. For many reasons it is disheartening to know that a juvenile is alleged to have committed these acts."
Hardy remains held awaiting a video arraignment scheduled for Tuesday, Match 1, in 36th District Court.
