DETROIT (WWJ) -- A teenager is facing charges after getting into a fiery crash in a stolen pickup truck, early Monday on Detroit's west side.
According to Michigan State Police, a trooper with the Metro South Post tried stopping the stolen Ford pickup on Outer Drive near Schoolcraft, just after 5 a.m. on April 20, but the driver didn't stop and ran a red light.
The trooper did not pursue per departmental policy, MSP said,
A short time later, the trooper found the same pickup had gotten into a crash with another vehicle.
The stolen truck was in flames with the 15-year-old suspect in the vehicle. The trooper pulled him from the truck and gave him first aid before he was taken to a hospital for treatment of a minor head injury.
While at the hospital, the teen was arrested for possession of a stolen car and failing to stop for police.
MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said the teen was then released to his mother pending prosecutor review and juvenile court proceedings.
No other injuries were reported.
