FERDALE (WWJ) -- A Garden City man is accused of leading police on a dangerous chase before crashing into a Verizon store along Woodward Avenue last week.
According to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, 26-year-old Emad Rehman was speeding and weaving through traffic last Thursday, trying to avoid Royal Oak Police before eventually running a red light. He then lost control of his Tesla and crashed into the Verizon store in Ferndale at the corner of Lewiston and Woodward Ave.
Rehman allegedly had a suspended license, no insurance, and active warrants at the time.
“It’s fortunate this incident ended without any injuries,” said Prosecutor McDonald. “The defendant’s alleged actions recklessly endangered countless motorists and damaged a business.”
Rehman was charged with Third Degree Fleeing and Eluding which is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and/or a $1,000 fine.
He was also given a Driving While License Suspended misdemeanor which is punishable by up to 93 days in jail and/or a $500 fine.
