MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A Madison Heights man is facing a slew of drug and firearms charges after police raid uncovered thousands of pills, chemical manufacturing components, and guns in his home.

Alex Gelement, 28, was arrested after Madison Heights Police executed a search warrant on July 9, in a neighborhood south of 12 Mile Rd. and west of Dequindre Rd.

The raid followed community reports of narcotics trafficking at the residence, according to investigators.

Inside the home, investigators found and seized 4,367 prescription and "illicitly manufactured" pills, 2,854 empty pill capsules, and 319 grams of various chemicals used in illegal pill manufacturing.

Officers also recovered nine firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition of various calibers.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office authorized an eight-count warrant against Gelement.

The charges include three counts of felony firearm, one count of delivery or manufacture of methamphetamine or ecstasy, one count of delivery or manufacture of cocaine, one count of delivery or manufacture of a Schedule V controlled substance, and two counts of possession of controlled substance analogues.

Police noted that additional charges could be filed pending forensic laboratory testing and chemical analysis of other suspected drug evidence.

Gelement was arraigned in the 43rd District Court, where a judge set his bond at $300,000 cash or surety.

On Thursday, he remained held in the Oakland County Jail while awaiting his next court hearing, set for July 22.

"Drug trafficking is not a victimless crime. It brings violence, fuels addiction, attracts other criminal activity, and diminishes the quality of life in our neighborhoods. If you observe suspicious activity, please do not assume someone else will report it. Your information may be crucial in keeping your community safe," the department said, in a news release.

Madison Heights residents with concerns about criminal activity in their area are urged to call police at 248-585-2100.
