DETROIT (WWJ) -- Multiple charges have been brought against a 56-year-old Detroit woman after she allegedly stabbed her 2-year-old grandson.

On Wednesday, October 20, just after 1:30 a.m., Detroit Police responded to a reported stabbing at an apartment in the 5200 block of Chrysler Drive on the city's east side.

Officers found the toddler bleeding from the right side of his skull. His grandmother, Alisha Caver, is believed to have stabbed the child multiple times in the head with a knife.

First responders rushed the little boy to a nearby hospital for treatment. At last check, he was still listed in critical condition.

Police arrested Caver at the scene, and she was arraigned Friday afternoon at 36th District Court.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Caver with Child Abuse First Degree, Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm and Felonious Assault.

This is an open investigation. Law enforcement is still working to determine why the grandmother stabbed the boy. It is also unknown whether anyone else was in the apartment at the time of the stabbing.
