Train derails in Romulus; cleanup crew strikes line, causing power outage

ROMULUS, Mich. (WWJ) – Authorities say there were no injuries after a train derailed in Romulus early Saturday morning.

Fire officials in Romulus say a train hauling steel went off the tracks sometime early Saturday morning between Eureka and Northline Roads. There were about 15 rail cars involved in the incident.

It was not exactly clear what time the crash happened or what caused it.

During the cleanup efforts, equipment brought in to bring the rail cars back to an upright position hit an overhead communications line that caused a power outage along Eureka Road near I-275 and Wayne Road.

The outage has since been restored. Eureka Road, west of I-275 was expected to remain closed for up to 30 hours.
