TRAVERSE CITY (WWJ) -- The ongoing worker shortage is playing a role in the closure of an assisted living facility in northern Michigan and the scramble to find new homes for their residents.

The owners at Northern Star Assisted Living in Traverse City said not having enough people to work has been a "challenge."
Northern Star administrator, Amber Phillips, said other assisted living centers were eager to snap up the new employees that now have to say their goodbyes.
Staff have been helping find new housing for the 46 residents, said Phillips.
Phillip's said she’s “really afraid” there won’t be enough places to take care of the vulnerable and elderly in the region in the years ahead.
According to the owners, the future of the building may be a hotel.
