(Associated Press/WWJ) A trial date has been set for a Michigan man accused of killing and cannibalizing a young man he met on a dating app.
The Flint Journal reports Matt Latunski, 50, will go to trial October 18th 2022 on charges of open murder and mutilation of a body.
Latunski is accused of killing 25-year-old Kevin Bacon in late December 2019. Bacon was found dead on Dec. 28, 2019, maimed and hanging by his ankles, from the ceiling of Latunski’s home in Shiawassee County's Bennington Township, about 30 miles northeast of Lansing
Investigators allege in court records that Latunski admitted to stabbing Bacon in the back, slitting his throat, and removing his testicles, then later eating them.
Bacon’s roommate at the time told police that Bacon and Latunski had met on the dating app Grindr. Bacon's family reported him missing the day after he met up with Latunski.
Divorce, custody and criminal records revealed a litany of complaints against Latunski—describing him as "fixated on a conspiracy theory" and sporadic in taking the drugs prescribed to him for mental illness.
If convicted, Latunski could face life in prison.
Shortly after the murder, Karl Bacon said of his son, Kevin: "It’s gut-wrenching to hear the details and we’re beside ourselves. I’m going to remember him how everyone else remembers him, that he’s a good person who was passionate and cares for people."
