TROY (WWJ) – A Troy man could face charges of impaired driving after a crash in Troy earlier this month.
Officers were called to the area of Corporate Drive and Long Lake Road around 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 13 after getting reports of a crash with injuries.
When they showed up on-scene, the 34-year-old driver told officers he had swerved to avoid a deer, which caused him to go off the road and hit a tree.
But officers noted his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Though he initially denied having anything to drink prior to driving, he later said he had one shot of alcohol.
After failing a series of field sobriety tests, the man refused to take a preliminary breath test and was taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up. Once there, he took a chemical breath test, with BAC results of .006% and .065%.
Troy police officials say the man was issued a citation for operating while impaired and refusing a preliminary breath test. It was not clear whether the charges will stick, since his breath test results were under the legal limit of .08.
Since he was involved in the crash, the driver was checked out by Alliance Mobile Health then released to Troy Beaumont Hospital for further care. His name has not been released.
