TROY (WWJ) — A man police believe is responsible for a number of recent home invasions has been arrested in Troy.
Troy police officials say 41-year-old Brian Kellum was arrested Friday afternoon less than two hours after a resident reported their home had been broken into.
That person called police around noon on Jan. 24 to report the home invasion on Big Beaver Road near Crooks. Authorities did not say what, if anything, was taken during that alleged incident.
Kellum was arrested during a traffic stop around 1:30 p.m. the same day. Troy police officials say his arrest came following “an intensive investigation” led by the multi-jurisdictional Special Investigations Unit.
While authorities say they gathered evidence and tracked Kellum’s activities, no details about other alleged home invasions have been released. Police officials only said Kellum “is believed to be involved in additional home invasions in Troy and the surrounding area.”
Kellum was arraigned Monday on charges of second-degree home invasion and driving with a suspended license. Bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety, no 10%. It was not immediately clear whether Kellum will face additional charges for the other alleged home invasions.
The Special Investigations Unit is comprised of officers from the Auburn Hills Police Department, Birmingham Police Department, Bloomfield Township Police Department, Royal Oak Police Department, and Troy Police Department.
Troy police officials are encouraging residents to “remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”
