TROY (WWJ) – A Ferndale man is expected to face charges of drunk driving after Troy police officers had to break his window after finding him asleep at the wheel.

It happened shortly after midnight on Wednesday, Sept. 13 when officers were called to perform a welfare check on someone sleeping behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram near Big Beaver and Rochester Roads.

When officers showed up to the stoplight the driver was still sleeping and the truck was in drive.

After failing to wake him up from outside the truck, the officers eventually had to break out the passenger window to get inside.

Once he woke up, officers noticed he was disoriented and had slurred speech. His breath also smelled of alcohol.

After failing several sobriety tests the driver refused to take breath tests and he was arrested. He eventually had his blood drawn to determine whether he was intoxicated. The case was turned over to the Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood results are returned.

The driver's name has not been released.
