TROY (WWJ) -- Police are searching for suspects in the shooting of a Troy resident outside his own home.
At around 3:42 a.m. on Tuesday, Troy Police said a homeowner in the area of the area of Fredmoor St. and South Blvd. called 911 to report he'd been shot.
Officers and EMS responded to find the man, who was wounded in the leg.
He was treated at the scene, police said, before being taken to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
The man told police he'd spotted and confronted two people who were stealing the catalytic converter from his pickup truck, which was parked in his driveway
After the victim called out, both suspects fled toward a dark-colored SUV waiting on the grass near the driveway.
That's when the man said one of the suspects turned toward him and fired a handgun before both got into the SUV and fled on South Boulevard.
Prior to the shooting, Troy officers were in the area of Cypress and Bristol investigating another catalytic converter theft from a vehicle parked in a residential driveway.
In that case, police said neighbors described seeing a similar dark-colored SUV fleeing the area.
Later Tuesday morning Troy Police said this remains an active investigation; and no suspects have arrested or identified.
Anyone who has information or video footage that could help investigators with this case is asked to call the Troy PD Tip Line at 248-524-0777.
