WARREN (WWJ) - Charges have been filed against two men in relation to a deadly crash in Warren.

In a statement released by the Warren Police Department, a 53-year-old Warren man was killed in a crash on Feb. 25 at 10 Mile and Ryan Roads. A 25-year-old Warren woman is in a local hospital in critical condition. The two were in a “non-at fault vehicle” at the time of the crash.

Authorities said the investigation revealed that two Warren residents, 20-year-old Tayasukh Ayman, who was driving a black Honda Accord, and 22-year-old Golam Chowdhury, who was driving a gray Toyota Camry, were both driving at a high rate of speed on Ryan Road. A second black Honda Accord attempted to turn into the parking lot of the Tim Horton’s on Ryan Road when it was struck by Ayman’s vehicle.

“Witnesses on scene advised both Ayman and Chowdhury were driving recklessly and may have possibly been ‘racing,’” according to the statement from the WPD.

“Here again we see the dangers of reckless driving,” Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer said. “One person is dead and another is critically injured as a result of two drivers making the choice to ignore the posted speed limits and engage in some type of racing which cost an innocent and uninvolved resident their life. Now, the drivers involved are facing serious charges for an incident which was completely avoidable. This case should serve as a reminder to all drivers to slow down and obey the rules of the road.”

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has charged both men with “one count of Reckless Driving Causing Death (15-year-felony) and one count of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Injury (5-year-felony).” A not-guilty plea was entered for Ayman and Chowdhury. Each man had bond set at $50,000. Other requirements for bond are a GPS tether and the surrender of their passports.

Chowdhury’s next court date is March 14.

Ayman, who was injured in the crash, remains hospitalized.
