One Michigan singer’s journey came to a close on last night’s episode of “The Voice.”

Rio Doyle, a 16-year-old Tecumseh High School junior from Adrian, and Zania Alake, a 34-year-old banker and single mother from Detroit, both landed on John Legend’s team this season on the hit NBC show.

Last night, the two powerhouse singers went head-to-head in the Knockouts, pitting Michigan against Michigan in a thrilling round that sadly left only one of the contestants in the competition.

Alake took on a classic, singing “If I Were Your Woman” by Gladys Knight, while Doyle chose a more contemporary song, “Issues” by Julia Michaels.

Though both singers received positive feedback from the coaches, it was Zania Alake that had the edge, and John Legend declared her the winner.

“Zania came with a perfect performance at the perfect moment when she had to establish herself as a force to be reckoned with as we go into the Live Playoffs. Zania did that and more,” Legend said.

Now moving on to the live rounds, Alake joins fellow metro Detroiter Rachel Mac, a 15-year-old contestant from Romeo who is a member of Nick Jonas’s team.

Mac delivered a moving performance of Jewel’s “Foolish Games” on last night’s show, beating out Zae Romeo, who was later saved by Kelly Clarkson.

“I picked Rachel because she’s kind of a dark horse,” Jonas explained of his decision. “I think she’s one of the strongest vocalists we have.”

Catch Zania Alake and Rachel Mac on the Live Playoffs of “The Voice" beginning next month on NBC.
