ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- As the Michigan Wolverines take the field on Saturday against Iowa for the Big Ten Championship Game in Indiana, they will be keeping the community of Oxford in their hearts, and on their uniforms.

The football team will honor the victims of this week’s tragic shooting at Oxford High School with a special commemorative patch in the shape of the school’s “Block O” logo.

“The ‘TM’ and ’42’ pay tribute to football player Tate Myre,” a tweet on the U-M football account explained. “Tate, Hana St. Juliana, Madisyn Baldwin, and Justin Shiling, whose lives were senselessly lost earlier this week, are represented by the four blue hearts.”

Tate Myre, a junior with a 3.9 GPA, was a college football recruit. Myre was honored in February with a regional football award by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association as a linebacker and tight end on the school's football team.

Over 204,000 people have signed a petition online to rename Oxford's stadium after the young athlete, who was reportedly fatally shot as he attempted to disarm the gunman.

Several other petitions, as well as fundraisers and vigils, have been announced in the wake of the deadly school shooting on Nov. 30, that claimed the lives of four students and shook the small, tight-knit community of Oxford to its core.
