(WWJ) Authorities in Allegan County are investigating to determine the death of a John Doe whose body was discovered on the Lake Michigan shoreline.

At around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Allegan County Sheriff's Office responded to the 2200 block of of Lakeshore Dr. in Ganges Twp., south of Saugatuck, where a homeowner spotted what looked like a human body on the beach.

When deputies arrived, they found the body of a man, unknown age. He wasn't wearing any clothes, officials said, aside from a pair of size 12 brown leather Converse All Stars shoes.

According to investigators, the body appeared to have been in the water for some time, and as a result will be more difficult to identify.

It's unclear how the man died, officials said, and while there were no obviously signs of foul play, the case is being investigated as a "suspicious death" at this time.

Wednesday afternoon, detectives were still awaiting results from the Medical
Examiner's Office which will work to determine a cause of death, and more information that will hopefully help identify the man.

The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police and the Saugatuck Fire Department.
