DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police in Canada are asking for help to identify a man who died after he was pulled from the Detroit River, just north of the Ambassador Bridge.
According to the Windsor Police Service Major Crime Unit, the man was recovered following a call for a water rescue this weekend, in the area of Riverside Drive West and Bridge Ave., early Sunday morning.
At around 12:45 a.m., patrol officers and members of the Emergency Services Unit (ESU) responded to the scene to find the man in the water.
Several officers, along with members of Windsor Fire and Rescue, were able to get the man to shore where he was treated by paramedics.
He died a short time later at a local hospital, police said.
Monday afternoon, Windsor Police reached out to the public for help to identify the man.
He is described as an Asian male in his 20s, 5'10" tall and weighing 160 to 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a blue and grey
t-shirt, gray long-john style pants under a pair of "Jeywood" blue jeans, black New Balance running shoes size 8.5, and a black winter coat.
Taking the current into account, police said it's believed that the man would have initially been east of where he was found. At this time however, police said investigators do not know at this time how long he was in the water.
At this time investigators do not believe foul to play to be involved, although it's not yet clear how he ended up in the water.
Anyone in the area with a surveillance camera is asked to check for possible footage of the man, and police are asking anyone who may have seen him in the area to give them a call.
Those with information should call the Windsor Police Service - Major Crime Unit at 519-255-6700 ext.4830 or ext. 4000 (after hours), Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS). The public can also submit tips online at www.catchcrooks.com.
