ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police and other specialists are investigating after human remains were found at a construction site on the campus of the University of Michigan.
An MSP spokesperson speaking with WWJ Newsradio 950 confirmed that the MSP First District crime lab was called in to assist campus police at the scene in Ann Arbor on Tuesday.
According to Melissa Overton, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Information Officer Police Department for the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety & Security, the remains have been identified as human by an anthropologist.
Police cleared the scene, and Overton said construction has since resumed at the site were the remains were discovered.
Officials so far have not provided further information about the exact location of the construction site, and no additional details were released regarding exactly what was found.
It's still unclear whether or not foul play is suspected, as the investigation continues.
Asked how long the remains may have been there, Overton told WWJ that that will be determined by a specialist.
