SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) -- A Utica man faces life in prison without parole if he's convicted as charged in the premeditated murder of his wife, at a gas station in Shelby Township.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, on Sunday. Sept. 21, 25-year-old Sydney Emmanuel Davis Jr. met his estranged wife, 23-year-old Fatme Davis, at the Meijer gas station on Hall Road, between Hayes and Schoenherr, for a custody exchange.

While their child was waiting in the car, it's alleged that Sydney Davis beat and repeatedly stabbed Fatme Davis, who was rushed to a hospital where she died of her injuries.

Sydney Davis was later found by police in Armada Township with a severe laceration on his hand. He was arrested and transported to a hospital for treatment.

On Wednesday, Sydney Davis was arraigned in 41A District Court on one count of First-Degree Murder.

Bond was denied, and the defendant was remanded to the Macomb County Jail to await his next court appearance, a Probable Cause Conference set for Oct. 7.

“The allegations in this case are both shocking and deeply disturbing," said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido, in a statement. "A young mother was allegedly killed at the hands of her estranged husband, while their child sat waiting in the car. Our office is committed to pursuing this case to the fullest extent of the law to ensure justice is served.”

Officials said the child was not physically harmed, and is safe in the custody of his paternal grandmother.
