WARREN (WWJ) — A 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after nearly drowning while swimming in a pool in Warren early Monday evening.
Warren police and fire crews were called to the Kings Pointe Apartment Complex near 12 Mile and Hayes Roads just before 6 p.m.
When first responders showed up, family members were performing CPR on the boy, who had been rescued by adults at the apartment complex after remaining under water for several minutes, according to Warren police.
Officers quickly determined the child was breathing on his own and stood by with the family and child until paramedics arrived.
The boy was then taken to the hospital, with police officers escorting the ambulance.
As of 8:30 p.m., Warren police officials said the boy remains in "critical but stable condition."
Investigators returned to the scene to conduct follow-up interviews with the child's parents and other family members to determine what happened leading up to the near drowning.
