WARREN (WWJ) -- Following calls to turn himself in, a Warren man accused of knocking a parent unconscious at a Cub Scout meeting surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

The suspect, Tyrone Sledge, turned himself in to the Warren Police Department on Monday morning. He was arrested without incident and will be arraigned later in the day.

Sledge has been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm in connection with a violent incident that took place during a Cub Scout meeting at Roose Elementary School last Tuesday.

If convicted, the defendant could spend up to 10 years in prison.

According to investigators, Sledge was called to the elementary school by a female relative just after 7 p.m. The woman had gotten into a minor argument with another man over a handycap parking space prior to the scout meeting.

Officials alledge that the defendant entered the school's cafeteria and approached the man while the meeting was in progress. Sledge told the man that he was armed and threatened the man before punching him in the head. The man lost consciousness, and Sledge fled the scene in a vehicle.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition. He later stabilized and regained consciousness.

Sledge's arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
